A work in progress
I wish I could show you all of the steps in the monogram process, but I can't, so instead I'll just show you where it's at (which is almost done...)

So it's coming along I think. It needs to be refined, but it's getting there anyway. It's been interesting working on it since it's been so long since I've made a mark using only letterforms. Most of the time I find myself working on illustrative or typographic solutions that consider the letterforms used, but aren't really about the letterforms themselves. It's exciting to get to do it again, and it reminds me a lot of being in school. For me, that's a good thing. I find that it's also difficult because it's so personal. I want it to be perfect, a mark that describes the union involved in marriage as well as being expressive of our relationship. For example, I could have chosen just to use a "J" and "k", but instead decided to add and emphasize the role of the "T" to indicate that it's really one thing, not just the union of two but a new thing altogether. Some of the "curly" parts (for lack of a better word coming to mind) aren't just for embellishment but to represent that the parts are becoming part of one another. The J doesn't just curve up, but it becomes an integral part of the K (or is it the other way around...?) So, that's where it's at.
Also, if you haven't already been watching it, check out the Big Bang Theory, Mondays on CBS at 8 EST. It's great.
